Hostels in Binus University

This information is specially designated for Malaysian students who would like to go for exchange programme in Bina Nusantara University or we always called as Binus University.

Regarding to the hostel, there are some options that you may take:
1) Binus Hall of residence - with good security, beautiful swimming pool, access to internet, have some boarders activities (band, movies screening and many more), internet room, reading room, convenient shop (quite similar service that 7Eleven offers), high-end saloon, and printing/photocopy and stationaries shop, shuttle to binus campuses, varieties of food option at the food court, surau for muslims and muslimah, sharing toilets at the end of the level but convenient.

2- other private hostels - some are offering houses - but very expensive compared to malaysia house standard for rent especially for students (it may cost you around 3million Rupiah/ +- 900RM, some are apartments just nearby the campuses. If you would like to move into the apartment nearby, I suggest that you stay in Hall of Residence before you move into the hostel you prefer. Through internet, you can't have much access to the right and best hostel at designated area with ease of transportation.

Masters application in USM

Here is some advices for those students who want to pursue their higher education at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

1. Official website http://www.ips.usm.my
2. For research basis, you can apply at any time throughout the year while for coursework, the dateline so far usually on March 31 for the September intake.
3. Coursework of Research would be easy for you?
- well..some people say that coursework would be easier due to has a valid guideline, that is your text book, but as you can see, even though it's just the same topic being thought, the Masters enforces more on application of those theories. In USM, based on my experiences, it's not that easy for you to get an A for any subject. Work hard and smart would lead to success in your studies.
- hey! how about research ah? people keep on saying it's a tougher one compared to by coursework. Yes, certainly, course your marks is only depending on your findings, results, and the most important is your VIVA. But not to worry, as you put in effort to make sure that you follow the guidelines given, your research has significant contribution, keeps update every month, I think there shall no problem to pass the VIVA. It's NOT as tough as coursework! You know why? It's due to, you just to put in effort for a topic, and not needed to crack out again the whole chapters in the textbook..

Malaysia-Singapore Water Agreement

1. Next year, 2011, one of the agreements to supply up to 86 million gallons of water per day (mgd) from Johore to Singapore at 3 sen per 1,000 gallons will end.

2. I understand Johore is still buying treated water from Singapore for 50 sen per 1,000 gallons. The amount purchased should not exceed 12 per cent of the raw water bought by Singapore.

3. The agreement also stipulates that the price of raw water and treated water can be renegotiated and changed if both parties agree. Should the raw water price be revised upwards Singapore would be entitled to revise the price of treated water.

4. If, for example, under the current agreement the water price is increased to 6 sen per 1,000 gallons, i.e. 100 per cent, Singapore can insist on the same percentage price increase by 100 per cent i.e. from 50 sen per 1,000 gallons to one Ringgit per thousand gallons.

5. If both sides agree on this quantum of price increase, Singapore would actually earn more from selling treated water to Johor than Malaysia would earn from selling raw water to Singapore.

6. Almost 10 years ago Johor was allocated sufficient money to build its own treatment plant so as not to buy treated water from Singapore. I am told that for reasons unknown, despite building its own treatment plant Johore is still buying treated water from Singapore.

7. Johore sells raw water to Melaka at 30 sen per 1,000 gallons. It seems that Johore is less generous towards Melaka than it is towards a foreign country. The wisdom of this escapes me.

8. Whatever, in 2011, a new agreement to supply Singapore with raw water from Johore may have to be made, I think that despite Singapore's desalination plant, despite Newater, and new reservoirs, Singapore would still need raw water from Johore. We should be willing to supply the people of Singapore with raw water.

9. The question is whether we should sell at 3 sen per 1,000 gallons and buy at 50 sen per 1,000 gallons of treated water as before or we should extract better terms.

10. Malaysian negotiators are unduly generous and we often provide ourselves with no exit clause. I will not cite the cases.

11. The public, the Johore people in particular, should be assured that we don't make agreements which are indefensible this time.

Indonesian potential market

Malaysian tabloid newspapers always display the environment here is containing a lot of provocations. I've been here nearly 2 weeks, and becoming realize the potential market that I might want to penetrate if I were given enough resources to conduct strategies.

Astro had lose in gaining the shares of TV broadcasting in Indonesia. They invest a lot (they provide the athenna for customers, they allocate more than 50% shares to start business portfolio in Indonesia). After some provocation due to unsatisfactorily by the some investors in the corporate portfolio, Astro had to divest! all the investments. They start firing up people in Malaysia last 2 years due to the lose.

It's look like the Sime Darby gonna face the same thing ya. They invest in the plantation legally in Indonesia, with approvals by the authorities, now they are in the court to get the status again.

I believe that, if you wanna operates in Indonesia, you shouldn't put your brand with regards to your country of origin, they are quite eager to piss us off, even you operate it legally, and you have black and white of documents. It's precipitous investment.

well, there are still Malaysian companies that are doing great here. One of it is CIMB. Then we have to benchmark them.

-this is personal opinion without edition-I do reading some articles before I make some evaluations- it's can't be proven as totally right information. tq~

A Sufficient Pressure

this is personal style or maybe u would be in the same team of mine. i need some pressure to make me work, i mean a sufficient one. i dont like too much pressure, that will blow my head off. i need a good quantity of pressure to heat up my entire mind-body organism. i can give u an example, take a deodorant can (spray), they design it with a certain amount of pressure, not too high and not too little. if it has a big pressure, the can will blow off, and if the pressure is too little, u couldn’t spray yourself.

having a pressure which is already present is quite different to ‘inventing a pressure’. your leader or your boss always creating these pressures, and u will suffer them. u are having the pressure, u must work, and maybe u are under pressure. we call this situation, ‘working under pressure’. if u are familiar with this condition, u will not suffer a lot. u manage u regulate and control the pressure at a desire pressure.

a ‘zero’ pressure obtained, when u are not doing much under none of target or objective. u wake up when u want, u eat when u feel hungry, u sleep when u feel sleepy, u are free to do whatever u want. no one urge u to do anything.

to conclude, get yourself a ‘sufficient pressure’ and manage it.

Percaya Pada Diri Sendiri

Semalam, ku terbaca satu kad raya yang diutus oleh seorang kawan baik berbangsa Cina. Dalam kad itu, ditulisnya, "you have the confidence that I always adore to possess".

Ia memberi inspirasi baru untukku hari ini. Semoga impianku tercapai.

Hari Bermuhasabah Diri
